This Cookie Policy explains how Terrain Systems Ltd ("Terrain", "we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and within the Terrain Apps and Terrain CAFM services (together, the "Services"). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

By using the Services, you agree to our use of strictly necessary cookies, which do not require consent. Any non-essential cookies are used only where you have given consent (see Managing your cookies below).

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website or use a web application. They let the site remember your actions and preferences (such as keeping you signed in) over a period of time. We also use similar technologies such as local storage and session storage, which work in a comparable way; references to "cookies" in this policy include these technologies.

2. Why we use them

  • to keep you securely signed in and maintain your session;
  • to protect against fraud and secure the Services;
  • to remember your preferences and settings within the application; and
  • where applicable and with your consent, to understand how the Services are used so we can improve them.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to track you across unrelated third-party websites.

3. Categories of cookies we use

3.1 Strictly necessary cookies (always on)

These are essential for the Services to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as signing in. Without them, the Services will not work. They include:

  • Authentication and session management: set by our authentication provider (Clerk) to manage your secure session. Cookie and storage; session and short-lived persistent.
  • Security and abuse prevention: set by Terrain and our network provider (Cloudflare). Cookie; session and short-lived.
  • Application preferences (for example timezone and settings): set by Terrain. Local storage; kept until cleared.

3.2 Functional cookies

These would enable enhanced functionality and personalisation. We do not currently use functional cookies beyond the application preferences noted above.

3.3 Analytics cookies (consent required)

These help us understand how the Services are used so we can improve them. We do not currently set analytics cookies. If we add a privacy-friendly analytics tool, we will set it only if you consent.

3.4 Advertising and tracking cookies

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

4. Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by third-party services we use to operate the Services, such as our authentication provider (Clerk) and our network and security provider (Cloudflare). These providers process this data in accordance with their own privacy policies. See our Privacy Policy for the full list of sub-processors.

5. Managing your cookies

  • Consent. Where we use any non-essential (functional or analytics) cookies, we will ask for your consent through a cookie banner when you first visit, and you can change your choice at any time.
  • Browser controls. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse cookies or alert you when one is set. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in and using the Services.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for legal reasons. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
